Low-income and rural mothers are most at risk of losing their babies due to a lack of access to adequate health services. In 2018, around 29,000 babies died in Egypt in their first month of life; births to poor mothers were two times as likely to die as children born to rich mothers.
Many of these deaths happened because of barriers to accessing basic health care. If a hospital doesn’t have the necessary medical equipment available, it puts many new lives in danger.
The Right Medical Equipment Can Save Lives
We have a clear goal: to prevent access-related neonatal mortalities. We do this by dedicating our team to equipping every neonatal intensive care unit in hospitals and health care centers in rural Egypt with functioning incubators. An incubator helps to control the oxygen, temperature, and humidity levels around premature babies to keep them alive in their most vulnerable time. Without an incubator, they have no real chance of survival.

Our Work: Helping Hospitals and Changing a Nation
Our team has served in several areas in Egypt, including Minya, Asyut, Qalyubia, Qena, Beni Suef, Faiyum, Gharbia, Dakahlia, Sharqia, Monufia, Suez, Damietta, Beheira, Kafr El Sheikh, and Sohag. Donations to our cause help us buy and fix incubators and acquire supplemental respirators. Our efforts have helped more than 40 hospitals and support for our work continues to grow.
Since August 2019, we have saved more than 380 lives. Our donors have helped us purchase six new incubators and fix ten incubators already owned by local hospitals. The power of one incubator cannot be underestimated.
With one incubator, we can help serve four babies every month. However, one incubator can cost up to $3,000. Additionally, respirators that help babies have healthy breathing conditions inside an incubator have a large impact on the baby’s survival rate.
